Dr. Amaya received the 2024 AMPP Fellow Honor Award
Dr Hisashi Amaya, a member of the Tubular Products Technical Service & Solution Dept., Tubular Products Technology Div., Nippon Steel Corporation, has been awarded the 2024 AMPP Fellow Honor Award by the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP)* in the USA. The award was presented in recognition of his contribution to the development of Corrosion Resistance Alloys (CRAs) -for the energy sector, including oil and gas development, as well as his many years of significant contribution to the testing method standard setting committee and the administration of the society. The award ceremony was held in New Orleans, USA, on 6 March 2024 in conjunction with the AMPP 2024 Conference & Expo.
*: The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) is a non-profit organization formed in 2021 through the merger of NACE International (founded in 1943, headquartered in Houston, Texas) and SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings (founded in 1950, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). AMPP serves as a global community of over 54,000 individual members across 130+ countries, comprising engineers and professionals dedicated to materials corrosion prevention and protection.
The Fellow Honor Award, which has been awarded this time, recognizes significant contributions in the field of materials protection and performance. It acknowledges academic, leadership, technical, and policy efforts related to the protection and performance of materials. Within the association, Fellows are established as technical and professional leaders who serve as advisors, fostering a broad network of relationships across the industry. This prestigious award has been bestowed upon renowned university professors, independent research institution scholars, and key materials technologists from major oil companies in the past.
Throughout his career, Dr Hisashi Amaya has made significant contributions to the understanding of corrosion phenomena in hostile oil and gas production environments. He has been instrumental in developing materials tailored to these specific environments contributing to safe and stable energy production.
Furthermore, he has been an active member of the ANSI-NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 standard development and maintenance committee. This standard is globally referenced and provides material recommendations for use in oil and gas production environments containing H2S. Over the years, he has also contributed to the technical symposium sessions at the association’s annual meetings and served as a member of the committee responsible for developing testing method standards, furthering the association’s activities.
